How Do I Figure Out What To Do Next?

So what has been new lately? Well, my mind is all over the place to be honest. I geared up to foster parent over the last year or so, and now I’m set and ready. However, there aren’t kids needing homes who fit my living circumstances. I trust God enough to know that His timing is everything. And, I wait. But, without a goal, I feel like a rogue ant, aimlessly wandering. How do I figure out what to do next?

If I had the answer to this question, I’d never have to work another day in my life!

What To Do Next

How do we figure out which direction to move in?

I’m a big fan of following God’s lead…because honestly, it’s less work and His favor can make a substantial difference. Thus, I’ve been praying and keeping a ear to the ground for any guiding from the Holy Spirit. After all, it was listening to the Holy Spirit that lead me to my first Ironman and the radical transformation of my life.

Also, I’ve been looking for signs from my tribe. My inner circle knows who I am (the good, the bad, and the ugly) which uniquely positions them to provide input. I’ve had discussions with my closest people and listened with my heart when they gave me advice.

Additionally, I’ve made lists…lists of things I love doing or really want to do. What am I feeling passionate about today? I’ve tried to narrow my focus by feeling out each item on the list in a physical way.

My grouping of interests looks like this: leadership, gardening, seminary classes, photography, teaching, writing, and life coaching (I recently became a life coach).

Figure It Out

My plan now?

Sit tight.

I know it’s not much of a plan (and I love to plan so this is doubly difficult for me). But, I believe the correct path will make itself known to me in time. However, there are a few action steps to take:

  1. Talk things out with your inner circle. Ask for references or places to find further information. Brainstorm for lack of a better word.
  2. Start your research. It can take a lot of hours to figure out the most appropriate next step (a difficult pill to swallow), but when you start doing research you begin to rule out potential avenues. Maybe you don’t figure exactly WHAT to do but you learn what you DON’T WANT to do.
  3. Spend some time listening or meditating. Not to be all “new age” on you, but I feel there are vibrations or sensations we can pick up on when we’re still. We don’t always have to be doing…try being and see if anything jumps out.

Thanks for listening and please share this with others who may be trying to figure out their next step.

Love, K.
